About CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidenced-based treatment that has been proven to reduce the symptoms relevant to the disorders listed above. Over the last 20 years; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has been continually researched via what is called randomised control trials (RCT’s) to test it’s effectiveness in treating anxiety and depressive disorders. The results have proven that CBT works to significantly reduce the symptoms of anxiety and depression, and very specific treatment plans have been developed to achieve this.  This means that therapy need no longer be a lengthy and costly process. Indeed, with most anxiety and depressive disorders being treated, and symptoms reduced within 6-10 sessions.

Our team of Psychotherapists are all qualified to post graduate level in CBT, PVG checked, and registered with professional bodies (BABCP, COSCA, BACP). They are equipped to skilfully guide you through the treatment plan most relevant to you, and will provide you with the knowledge and skills to continue to live a greatly improved life once CBT therapy has ended. ACT Counselling Services provide face to face, in person, CBT therapy in our premises at 210 Glasgow Road, Rutherglen, G73 1SA. Our Therapists

CBT / Psychotherapy

CBT is known as Psychotherapy as opposed to Counselling. The reason for this is that CBT helps us to make sense of our early life experiences and the ways in which these have led to us developing self-defeating patterns of behaviour that often lie behind our recurring problems and difficulties in work, social and familial settings. Have you ever wondered how or why ‘I always end up being……..’

The reason for exploring early life experiences is not necessarily to uncover experiences of trauma, neglect, abuse etc, although these have been some peoples experiences. Often the experiences that have led to the problems are far more subtle. Either way, it is never about fault or blame but about understanding and making sense. Bringing from the unconscious the issues that keep getting in your way.

The foundation of successful Therapy will always lie in a strong Therapeutic Relationship with your Therapist. This is a ‘collaborative’ relationship within which you are always consulted and involved, for example, how many sessions you will have, what you want therapy to focus on each week. The relationship will be built upon the core conditions of Genuineness, Acceptance and Empathy.

Appointments are, as much as possible arranged at a time that suits you best and will take place in our premises, 210 Glasgow Road, Rutherglen, Glasgow, G73 1SA.

Referral Process

If you choose to refer yourself for CBT Therapy, your details will be treated with the strictest of confidence, and passed to our Clinical Lead. Our Clinical Lead will then contact you via email or telephone to gather some brief details before allocating you to the most suitable therapist, or indeed to the therapist of your choice.

Referrals to members of the ACT Counselling Service team can be made by following the processes outlined above. At the point of referral, should none of the ACT Therapists be suitable or indeed if a different counselling modality is preferable our clinical lead will offer advice and signpost to other local counselling services that may be more suitable based on the needs of the enquirer.
Please note that therapy rooms are available to rent by counsellors, psychotherapists, and other professionals out with the ACT Counselling Services team. If accessing these services, all communication should take place with the professional offering these services independent of ACT Counselling Services. Professional registration, PVG status, insurance etc is the responsibility of the professional renting a room from ACT and should be checked with the professional directly.
